Morning Activity: Getting to Know Each Other

Here's an overview of who we are
and the exciting things that are happening for us this year:

  • I am working as a tech coordinator for lower grades at private school. The school is now networked & I want to develop more net research projects
  • I'm teaching in a new, completely networked school. My hopes are to get the whole school up & running. I teach Language Arts/Social Studies core and have a paid prep period to do technology coordination.
  • I am a technology coordinator who hopes to form an on site tech committee with teachers, parents, administrators & community members to coordinate technology efforts.
  • I'm a high school technology coordinator. I want to use students as tech support people this year in the computer lab. I hope to start a certificate program for tech. maintenance that the school awards to students.
  • I am the tech coordinator at a private school for lower grades. My goal is to get the school web site up & running to the point where students/parents can access curriculum, homework drop-off, etc.
  • I am a science teacher who also does tech coordination as voluntary position. I hope to get the school wired and to not be "voluntary" any more.
  • All the computers arrived in my library last year, rather than being spread amongst the grades. Last year was a long uphill struggle. Teachers didn't understand how to integrate tech into curriculum. I spent a lot of energy attempting to be librarian AND tech coordinator. This year's goal is to change things.
  • I am a Mac consultant from the insurance industry who does tech support training in education
  • I am looking at a large faculty turnover. I don't know the new faculty members' expertise, attitudes, experience with technology. The school is in the process of getting wired.
  • I am running a new project called the Interactive University which links UC Berkeley with Oakland & SF Unified School Districts. The focus is on distance learning projects.
  • I hope that more responsibility will be turned over to the teachers this year.
  • I am an independent high school school site teacher. I sees 1 student every 2 hours per week. A real range of levels. The program has 1 computer; I am trying to initiate a distance learning program.
  • I have been the ad hoc technology person. I came in to show science dept. teachers how to move beyond textbooks. I have been a role model. My main issues have been huge school growth (enrollment has doubled!) and the army base closure, which has done away with our community's middle class. Our tech coordinators are starting to meet once per month to collaborate.
  • I am a county technology coordinator in a county with 18 districts. Things are changing so rapidly that its hard to keep up with it all. But it's an opportunity.
  • I am a library/media specialist who is now also tech coordinator. I knew the most about technology at my school, so by default this got added on to my role. I have an assistant librarian, but I'm also teaching classes herself.
  • I am a technology consultant who wants to not just teach classes but help teachers integrate curriculum & create lesson plans.
  • I'm a first grade teacher who is also tech coordinator. 3 years ago I wrote a tech plan but have been actually learning technology as she goes. Has been partnering with Silicon Valley firms and most equipment is donated. Is going to pilot program whereby students build computers with donated equipment.
  • I am visiting California from Concord, MA. I working at a small private boys' school, with 60% of my time devoted to computers. I am the curriculum tie to technology. I call some teachers "zealots" and others "rocks." I try to give priority to zealots rather than rocks. I like using a "westward ho" analogy to describe the different levels of technology readiness. Teachers fall into categories of scouts, pioneers, settlers & won't leave home.
