Barbara Bray asked participants to introduce themselves, to identify their job title, location and role, and to indicate where they have areas of expertise and areas of concern they'd like the Fourm to address. Getting staff online; used to use old equipment; had a fire & other major setbacks; since they're starting from ground zero; how to balance time; staff development, infrastructure

Digital High School; trying to improve DHS help to schools

School-business partnerships; tech planning & implementation; educational software

Finding out what's on everyone's minds so her next step can be as helpful as possible; wanting to know model programs as a resource to others so they don't have to reinvent wheel

Technical information (former engineer), instructional design, staff development

teachers who aren't all ready yet; too many hats (especially network administration); role isn't in line with expertise; sees children once a week - wants more flexible schedule; teachers dump kids off at the lab and say they don't have time; administrative issues

background as librarian; training teachers and students to use technology in media center

Scheduling; unable to do library stuff; how to manage kids on computers for accountability (sign in numbers? Passwords?); Management strategies, particularly with internet; managing printers and supplies; staff training; getting computers on teachers' desks.

No long-term plan; making decisions that change; management by crisis; managing labs; getting computers on desks;getting everyone to use grading program; using donated computers

Curriculum development; working with kids to develop projects; getting kids excited; staff development; organization (time management, getting systems in place)

So much happening at K-5 level in technology, so integrating it effectively into curriculum at the middle school has now become a priority.; trying to make lab a training center; getting teachers more on board

Tina, K-12 District

provide training & curriculum development for tech coordinators and teachers and secretaries; technical end

Getting stipends for tech coordinators; defining job definition; getting technology into the classrooms; getting secretaries trained in MS Office

David, Junior High School

Chemist by training; Jack of all trades

Individual teacher buy-in; differentiation between technology levels of kids who are haves and have-nots

Donna, Elementary School

All free time is spent on troubleshooting & installations; wants to do more staff development; teacher buy-in; full-time teacher, so how to manage her availability

Shelagh, Elementary School

lost her lab; library and lab are now in one portable due to class size reduction; kids get computer access for one hour every other week; teachers even less; lab teacher is now 15% time; 6th graders are in limbo because they may be going to middle schools; doesn't have infrastructure; go from crisis to crisis

Web design; networking; staff development; community building

trying to find ways to support this group and make life easier

Dee Anne, K-12 District

Implementing technology bond measure; creating Acceptable Use Policies for student and staff use; figuring out levels of student, staff and classified abilities; starting a SASI users group

Just moved to SASI XP and its been a nightmare; updating master plan so it ties in with strategic plan

Dale, Elementary School

new LAN with new Pentium computers; great system but lots of new stuff for teachers

web site development

Cathleen, K-8 District

passed $79 million bond measure; was an MIS director; expertise in building infrastructure

how to support tech coordinators; how to get additional computers in classrooms; how to keep donated equipment maintained; building district-wide intranet

Jana, K-8 District

Zero is in their budget for technology; they have it there but there is no maintenance plan;

Joe, K-12 District

63,000 students, 5 tech people serving whole district; teachers don't want to use computers because of lack of tech support; keeping up with increasingly complex network; how to support curriculum standards with computers; how to structure tech skills for kids; how to spread computers out amongst ALL classrooms
